I had never had blood drawn until I was pregnant, and I was scared to death the first time. I'm not a big fan of needles. Just take a big breath, don't watch them do it, and stare at something on the wall. Once they get the needle in, you don't really feel it, and it's over before you know it. Also - make sure you're really well-hydrated so that it is easy to find a vein.
You really need to have the tests done to make sure there is nothing wrong with you or your baby. For some conditions, there is no other way to know, and not knowing could really hurt both of you. Just remember you're doing it for the baby and you'll be fine!

Well, u would have to get used to it. I'm sorry to say, my wife was preg 2yrs ago, and I remeber everything. U have to drink that sweet drink a few times, to see ur glucose leveles, and they will take blood. And when go into labor, and some other times.
Put it this way! ur doing it for the baby! they take blood to make sure everything is well with u and ur baby, if they dont take blood, they may not know if something isnt going right!
When the baby is born, the baby has blood test as soon as he or she comes out! so, calm ur self down, and think to ur self, "I'm doing it for (us) !

I have blood test all the time, they arent bad, all you feel is a prick then it stings for like a second, there is nothing to be afraid about. You can take a stuffed animal or pillow too just in case you need to squeeze something. Good Luck!

I'm not understanding what it is you are afraid of...
… the procedure itself? It takes a few minutes and is mildly uncomfortable a most (especially compared to childbirth, LOL!)
… the results? It's better to find out if there are complications earlier rather than later. Some conditions can be treated in-utero nowadays!
I am sorry for your loss; I had a miscarriage several years ago when my son was 2, and have not had another opportunity to try again. Good luck to you and your baby!

blood test shouldn't be a problem.. ask them if you can lay down instead of sitting in the booth.. it doesn't hurt THAT much and you don't have to watch them do it.. just have someone hold your hand it will be over with in less than 10 seconds. (at worse it feels like a slight pin prick on your arm or finger.. its really not that big a deal.. calm yourself)

experiment around and see what works for you. I personally hate needles and was always paranoid of shots and blood tests- for me I couldn't handle it until I watched. It was like it gave me some sort of control over the experience. I still didn't like it, but I knew when to brace my mind, as opposed to them just stabbing me when I don't know when to expect it. Doing things like giving them persmission to insert the needle can give you the feeling of being in control as opposed to being assaulted. Tell the technician that you want to give them permission to withdraw the blood and then watch. You'll be surprised at how it changes your frame of mind from being a victim to being in control.

i completly understand, i hate needles!!!!!! i to had a miscarriage, but before i knew for sure and they were doing all the tests i just had to keep thinking of the baby and of course closed my eyes!:) You will be able to do it, be strong for your baby and just think being stuck by a small needle will be a piece of cake to actually giving birth,. lol

it's ok. Just breathe in and out and think of it as just a tiny little mosquito bite.
