John McCain's actions can be identified in one word: politician.
A more complete explanation for McCain's actions is that he is seeking the Republican nomination for President in 2008. As such, he is willing to do or say almost anything that he believes will make him the obvious choice.

Defending Bush at this point - McCain is really defending the war more than the president, but even so - is definitely NOT a vote-getting idea, so I can't agree with that theory.
As I remember it, McCain was critical of the war early on because not enough resources were being committed to gaurantee a victory. Years of stalemate later, he's still wanting to get more resources in there, and the Pres is pushing the troop surge. I don't really see a flip-flop there, at least, not from McCain.
On other issues, though, McCain is known to compromise: he's more willing to take a bi-partisan aproach than most republicans, especially when they were actually in power.

Mc Cain stands wherever he thinks you want him to. There aren't any pro war people right now, and so he can feel he has the whole pro war group maybe he didn't believe there were only 28% who were pro war, but maybe he also figured the 28% were fanatic enough to vote en masse and get him elected. The good things about Mc Cain was the feeling that he stood for what he believed in now we see he only believes in getting himself elected. Its important to see that he brought in far less money than he did last time, and he may even choose not to run in the end. Its a sad end to a once admired man.

At least he doesn't flip flop as much as Dubya. Or Kerry. That's the problem with almost all politicians from the 2 main parties:
1. They SAY anything to get votes.
2. They DO anything to keep their corporate masters, the lobbyists, and the special interests happy.
They all suck. Take comfort in this: Whoever gets elected next will most likely suck...but at least they will be better than Chimpy! The worst will be behind us.

Because he is a politician. There is only one honest politician in Washington. That is Congressman Ron Paul:

He is against the governement taking away our rights and was against the Iraq War since day 1, and is even a Republican. He knew it was wrong, and has never changed his stance on anything.

John McCain, despite spending 5 years in a POW camp has decided to become a two-faced little b*tch in order to obtain votes.
He is 83 now and he probably feels this is the last chance he has to be elected President.
