WW1 - 1914-1918: At the beginning of the 20th century, Germany wanted to expand her colonial possessions in East Africa and to expand her military forces in the Baltic. England and France were not happy with the Kaiser's plans and the polarization of European forces began. The assassination of Prince Ferdinand in Sarejevo was the spark that ignited the war.
WW11 - 1939-1945: The seeds for this war were planted in 1919 at at the peace negotiations in Paris. The first war had bankrupted the allied nations and they were looking for reparations from Germany. The reparations were punishing and Germany went into a deep economic depression to try and pay them off. The environment was ripe for the rise of Hitler, and he came to power in 1933. He started to re-industrialize the Rhur Valley and make inroads on his neighbours, Austria and Chekoslovakia. In 1939, he invaded Poland and the world was at war.
Is there a point to war? It depends on what's at stake. In the first world war, it was the prevention of Germany's acquisition of economic and political power; in the second, Hitler's ambitions for European domination had to be stopped, for the sake of our own freedoms that we enjoy today, and for the lives of the Jews today. Please remember that Hitler's final solution for the Jews as well as anyone else who didn't meet his idea of physical or intellectual perfection, or who disagreed with his social policies was extermination. On the Pacific Side, Japan's ambitions to dominate Asia and Australia had the be stopped. and, like Hitler in Europe, the Japanese inflicted terrible hardships on their defeated enemies, especially on the Chinese from 1937 to 1945.

Okay in WWI the Allied powers fought the Central powers basically for control of Europe.
In WWII The Axis powers fought for control of large areas of the world before being defeated by the allied powers.
Thats the simplest i can make it. But both are complex and theres a lot to be said for each.

Together with the Franco-Prussian war of 1870, which France also lost, these were an extended European civil war to decide what was to be the role of Germany on the European continent. The civil war was horrendous, the settlement has worked out well/
