A lot will have to do with what each player deems he is worth compared to what the Wings think he is worth. I dont know that bertuzzi is very comfortable in Det. but if he is and will play for less money than he is currently making the Wings would have a serious interest in him. Lang will not be back, he doesnt fit the style that Babcock prefers, Maltby again would be someone that would have to accept a deal for between 1 &1.5 mill. to return. Calder (another UFA) likes the Babcock system and Babcock surely had something to do with him coming to the Wings so if the money is right on both sides he will return (dont see any problem with the deal there). Schneider likely wont be back...they have had contract issues with him before and he only returned when the money wasnt right anywhere else....this time I think they let him walk they are pretty high on Quincey and the big Swedish kid...Jonathon Ericsson, they brought him to Grand Rapids this year to learn the American game. Chelios likely gets another year (he comes pretty cheap and gives good minutes). The good thing about the datsyuk deal is that it isnt for a lot more than his current deal per year so they didnt break the bank for him and with the young kids they are bringing along they have better cap freedom than people think ....Lebda, Quincey, Filppula,Kopecky and Hudler all make near minimum and Franzen and kronwall both have pretty reasonable deals. They may need some cap space though....if they win the Cup (and maybe even if they dont) Hasek will be retiring and Osgood isnt signed beyond this season (although getting him back should be easy...he likes it here and they like him). They may go with an Osgood/ Howard or Liv tandem (i'm thinking if they go that route it will be Liv...more experience and Howard would be better served to get one more year in the AHL under his belt).
Bottom line is Lang is pretty much gone, Maltby & Schneider may be too plus Hasek likely retires. Bertuzzi seems 50/50 at best but personally I still think he might want out. That is a good chunk of cap room with a pretty good crop of FA available this spring.

Not really a fair comparison ... Lang and Bertuzzi are both UFA after this season, and Zetterberg is under contract through '09. That said, they will keep Lang and Zetterberg (when his contract is up) and they will let Bertuzzi walk.
The asking price matters alot ... I don't know what Lang and Bertuzzi will be demanding ... factor in that Maltby, Chelios, Hasek, Markov, Schneider and Calder are all out of contracts this summer too.

The more relevant question is: how aren't the Wings going to dump Lang? Not resigning him is practically a given.

I think they will let Bertuzzi, Lang, Matlby and Cleary go.
I don't know if Lilja's contract is up. If it is I would not be surprised if they let him go or trade him.

Well if Chelios retires, that would free up some money.
