Like they've started doing something like Netflix now, and they have that deal that only certain movies will be released at their store....and where i live we don't have a blockbuster...so thats highly unfair...their's one half an hour or so away.

I'm afraid so. All big businesses are becoming monopolies. Economy is cyclical and it is certainly coming around again. The excuse is world competition this time but I don't believe it. We also need our mom & pop store, too. It's balance. We need balance.

I think Blockbuster is the last stronghold of the video stores. I think in another 5 to 10 years Blockbuster will be a thing of the past and you will be able to select whatever video you want either on line or by phone and watch it on your TV. In the event you wish to purchase a movie you can do so on line a a lower price than what Blockbuster was able to sell it.

Yes, Yes, Yes, I own a small video store and it is totally unfair that they made a deal with Weinstein to have exclusive rights to their movies. Now every release day I have to run to the local walmart and try to buy copies of the movies for my customers to rent. I hope that deal backfires on that production company and they lose alot of loyal business from small mom and pop movie stores.

No-- they DO have competition, like Hollywood Video and Netflix. But Blockbuster leaves a lot to be desired, as they have removed most Academy Award winning films
and replaced them with video games, Spanish titles and teenage boy-type movies.
I perfer to get films for free from my library, cause movie rentals are too expensive.

Not even close....There are plenty of other companies offering the mail-in movie service...therefore, there's a lot of competition. So, no...they aren't anywhere near becoming a monopoly.

It's happening to the big companies all across America. Monopolies are suppose to be illegal but the good ole boys in Washington have been dancing around that for years.

It will continue to happen as long as we continue to outsource our jobs to foreign countries.

Isn't American great!

That's OK ... it is the desperate move of a company
trying to stay in business.

Why?

Between DVR, on-demand, etc, this business is
losing market size. The companies in question
were only equipped to grow, so they are scrambling.

It'd be a shame if they did, cause they suck. I personally do not use them anymore and don't recommend them to anyone. I use Hollywood Video, their customer service is way better.
