I'd portray Peter, or Andrew, or perhaps Joseph of Arimathea..
You might want to check your New Testament, and the histories, a little more closely about Pilate. There was never any fear about the disciples rebelling---prophets were popping up all over Judea, not just Jesus, and as the Roman administrator, Pilate had to balance the laws of Rome with the practices of the Jewish hierarchy, and keep the native populace in line. Jesus' popularity would have been troubling, but nothing that hadn't been dealt with before. The problem was, the Jewish hierarchy wanted Jesus killed, because they believed he was a blasphemer, and it was only Rome's authority that would put him to death. Pilate tried to pass off the responsibility, then had Jesus brought before him and questioned him, and still couldn't find anything to condemn him, except that Jesus was a little odd--finally, Pilate had Jesus taken before the public, and gave them the chance to free him or have him killed, and literally "washed his hands" of the decision before them. And it was the crowd, many of whom had welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem just days before, who called out for his crucifixion.
Pilate comes down to us, historically and in the Gospel story, as a weak, harassed, and inept administrator, who tried and failed, time after time, to do something intelligent. Are you sure you want to play this guy?
