from my experience they can see more if you have a full bladder! but the doctor may have you do a urine test before the test so i don't know if it will matter! and about the eating that doesn't make a difference either, they are not looking in your stomach! :)
Good luck!

I went at 20 wks for my (only) ultrasound and they told me before-hand to drink a quart of water in the 2 hours before my appointment, and not to go to the bathroom that whole time. Go measure out a quart of water sometime - it's a LOT.They usually want you to have a full bladder when you go for an ultrasound. It pushes the uterus up so that they can see the whole baby, and helps make the picture much clearer. Our pictures were awesome and you can see every little part of her body. I'd call the office where you are getting the ultrasound and ask them what they recommend. Have fun - ultrasounds are always neat!

I recently just had my first ultrasound and I'm around 12 weeks pregnant. I was not required to have a full bladder, so I actually went to the bathroom before the ultrasound to be more comfortable. I also was not told anything about eating beforehand, so I just ate breakfast and lunch as usual and then went for my appointment. I would just drink water and eat as you normally do.
Congrats!! :)

I had to drink about 4 glasses of water. Make sure that you drink it about an hour before your appointment. They need a full bladder. If you do not drink enough, they will give you more water to drink. Honestly, it sucks because you have to pee so bad and they are pressing on your stomach. But it is fast and then you can run to bathroom. Just make sure you drink at least 4 glasses of water in the hour before your appointment. I am at 37 weeks and go for c sec April 16. Good luck

My doctor gave me written instructions. I was to go to the bathroom an hour before my ultrasound and then drink 40 oz of water!
The ultrasound tech ended up telling me to go use the restroom as it wasn't necessary. Ha. I think sometimes it helps to have the option of beofre emptying bladder and after as sometimes the baby is in a bad position and this can help "move" him or her.

At 15 weeks you dont need to drink lots of water. The farther along you are you have to drink a lot of water to fill yyour bladder which make sit easier to see the baby.. right now your baby is so small that they will see it fine without you drinking lots of water. If you are really concernec, call your doc to find out. Take Care and enjoy the first images of your unborn baby.

I had my first ultrasound at my Dr's office, she had difficulty with the machine so she sent me to the hospital. I was told to drink 32 oz of water before going in. The ultrasound tech had trouble seeing and told me to empty my bladder. He saw best when my bladder was empty. Just depends on the person. Usually though you don't need to drink excess water.

you should not eat two hours before and empty your bladder an hour before. The amount of water depends on how far along you are, Just call your hospitals radiology deptartment and they nurses will give you the specifics. Ultrasounds are really fun and exciting, but make sure you know where the nearest bathroom is for on your way out.

Drinking lots of water is no longer required. But I always eat something sweet to make the baby move a lot.

I'm going in for my first ultrasound on Thursday. The nurse told me to go pee an hour before my appointment, then drink 3 eight ounce glasses of water before I get to the clinic. :) It helps get the baby closer to the outside of your tummy, easier to see.
