The time limit is up to you two...no one can tell you the limit. It should be based on both of your individual needs and wants. I was with my Husband now....for 1 1/2 years before we got married....and our son was born 3 months before we were married...and yes, our son was planned, he was not an accident :) We never argue or fight, sex is awesome and very frequent and we are wonderfully happy :) I just somehow knew he was the perfect man for me when I first saw him :)

I dated my b/f for 3 1/2 years before we got engaged... we've been engaged for 1 1/2 years now, and we'll probably get married in 2008. We're not really in a rush either, as you can tell, haha... we want to make sure that we should get married, and that we're able to support ourselves when we do marry. I don't really think there should be a time set as "too long".. it depends on the couple really, since some don't even want the formality of marriage anyway. Personally, I think we got engaged at the right time for us, and we're still waiting for the right time to get married..

We dated for 9 months then were engaged for 9 months before we married. Then we were married for 2 years, seperated for a year, and now have been back together for a year. Looking back, we both agree we should have waited a little longer. If you are in no rush, don't feel like you have to get engaged because of society pressures or outsider point of views. If you guys are happy, that is all that matters!

the average time couples wait is 2 years. some less than that some more than that. 18 and 19 is very very very young though. you do not realize it but you will change SO much from the age you are at now until you are in your mid to late 20s. you really really really should wait another 8 years or so before getting engaged. when are you are around the age of 26 then you can see if you guys are still together and still want to be together, and if so, you should get engaged then.

After 3 years, you should know if he is the person you want to grow old with and father your children. Personally, I knew at an early age I didn't want to be running around after toddlers in my 40's. My husband and I got engaged after a 1 1/2 yrs of dating and married a year later. All depends on what you want. Do what's best for you.

I've been dating my bf for 5 years now. We have no kids and are in no rush to get married. Every relationship is different but I think too long would be when you have all the benefits of marriage without the legal commitment. I've already expressed to him my wanting to get engaged because we've lived together for a year now. And I feel that sharing our income and bills(just like marriage) is a sign we should move forward.

We waited 3 months to get engaged and 2 and a half years to get married. We have been married now for almost 14 years and together almost 17 years. Good luck to you and your boyfriend.

My husband proposed after we had only dated for 2 weeks. We met May 26, 2002, moved in together August 1, 2002 and were married September 14, 2002. Still married and as happy as ever!

We moved fast. We weren't in a rush, but we saw no reason to dilly dally around. From first date to wedding day was 116 days. In 10 days it will be 7 years.
I think any engagement over 2 years is too long.
