Four years undergrad, four years med school. And then there's residency (for regular surgeons it's 7 years)... it's not school, but you're still learning from more experienced doctors. And THEN there's fellowship, if you want to be really specialized (which I'd assume plastics falls under).

It's the same as any doctor. You need an undergrad degree (4 years), medical school(class room, internship, residency). I think it works out to be 8-10 years in the end.
