now, is this true? Can anyone source that information for me, as from people I know who have had them, it cost them like $200-$300, hardly a financial windfall for a doctor a clinic as the procedure isn't necessarily simple. Can someone give me statistics not slanted opinion on how much money is made annually on abortions versus delivery of a baby, b/c I know that doctors make a lot on that procedure.

I just want to figure out if this is just rhetoric or true, thanks.

The links on the first page I found didn't work, so I couldn't source the claims.

This web page:

purports to show that abortion is "big business", but if you look at the revenue/expense breakdown, you will see that the clinic actually lost $16,600.

Average cost for an abortion is $372. The number of abortions performed in the US is going down, so it's hardly a growing business. Many physicians have stopped providing them. (Wouldn't you, if members of your profession had been murdered because of it?)

It would be hard to compare money made on abortions vs. money made on delivering a baby, because delivery is more time-consuming and complex. Lots of obstetricians are leaving that business, too. And there's more:

Your question is making my head spin. I'll be watching for some other answers.

Carol Everett's testimony is not exactly unbiased:

I've had a hard time finding information that is not slanted one way or another, but I've been trying.

It's not the operation that makes money, it's the lack of having children whose parents can't support them. The money comes from smaller welfare checks and the like being distributed. Normally babies that are aborted would either have been ill-cared for, or put up for adoption. These children have a higher probability of ending up in foster homes, which costs money. It's sad but true, as I am anti-abortion and the fact is this is the reason why politicians, left and right, don't touch the issue where it stands today.

Also, these aborted children are less likely to become criminals, or to claim welfare of their own when they aren't alive.

Edit: Zerlina, in your example, an abortion and a birth costs the same amount. OK, agreed. What about afterwards? A child could cost thousands of dollars to raise, an abortion is freedom from these expenses. Still think there's no money saved having legal abortions?

I have a feeling you are right, with abortions costing between $250 and $400, and delivery by an obgyn running $4000, it doesn't take a genius to figure it out. Among other rhetoric is the breast cancer rumor, and the future sterility rumor or even the crying on the floor for years rumors. I don't really care if you are pro choice or not, but would sticking to the truth be so awful?
If there were big money to be made, conservatives would be first in line to open up a huge abortion facility and then charge twice as much as the harassed doctors do so they could run them out of business, then charge their patients four times as much.
Free trade you know!

Might check this out....
http://www.abortiontv.com/Misc/BabyPartsForSale.htm

Found this on a pro-abortion website...shows the great sense of personal responsibility this country has

Women choose abortion for many reasons:
We can't handle having a baby right now.
Our parents would be angry or disappointed; we might get kicked out of the house.
Having a baby might screw up finishing high school, going to college, or having a career.
The father is not going to help.
We don't have the money to take care of a baby.
Having a baby isn't healthy for us or the baby.
We may have gotten pregnant by rape or incest.
Any reason we have for choosing abortion is a good reason. These are our bodies and our lives. No one has the right to force us to have a baby, or to punish us for liking sex.

Glad to know a creation of God is a punishment!

Let do the math it costs between 2-3 hundred for an abortion and 2-3 thousand for a normal vaginal delivery w/o Anestassia. if there are as may abortions as live births you do the math. So no "killing babies" is not a profitable business. Never mind all the religious broo ha ha

Its a pretty big money maker, but that is not what drives this ultimate evil. Our own base selfishness is the culprit I'm afraid.

Conservatives only claim to be capitalists; otherwise they would never miss out on this opportunity.
