As long as the flowers didn't open yet, they'll take a brief pause until it warms up a bit and they'll be okay. If the flowers already opened, the flower portion will droop down and may die but the leaves will remain alive. They aren't as hardy as crocus or daffodils. You do not need to cover them unless the flowers have already opened.

I agree with the answerer above that you should cover them with some pots. However, to be honest I HATE my tulips and I've often left them to the cold in hopes that they'd die (I'm digging them up this year and giving the bulbs to friends). We had a freezing last week rain that actually froze over my buds - and it didn't kill them. The darn things won't die. And they propegate like crazy. I've even "accidently" sprayed them with weed killer, chopped off their stems and leaves while still green (because they bloom and then just look like crud) and they come back year after year. The only thing I haven't done is dig up the bulbs, which I will be doing. So they're pretty hardy plants. Especially if they're really established. Even if the frost kills your buds this year - it's likely the darn things will come up again next year.

I disagree with the first answer. My tulips died when it suddenly turned cold again. I would try covering them will a container at night. Place a brick on top to prevent blowing away or tipping.

I would cover them with a tarp to make sure they are safe, until this cold snap goes away.
