They shouldn't be. The argument designers use it that the girls need to be thin like a hanger so you can see the dress and not the girl. I don't buy it. I don't think models should be fat either, but what's wrong with eating something once in a while?

Supposedly, clothing hangs better on tall skinny women. Ha ha. The designers with their overpriced clothing should see me, a six foot tall woman who is still on the thin side (okay, wait until after I have this baby with whom I've five months pregnant), go to an "average" store like Macy's or JC Penny's or even Wal-Mart (whcih I try to avoid) and let them see how well real clothes in the real world on a real woman actually hang. Even last summer when I was bone thin (complete with protruding hip bones and ribs) I had difficulty finding clothing that didn't show my protruding bones.

Although, my too-short-but-it's-better-than-having-no-pants pants hung lower so they looked longer. That was kind of nice.

Also, American culture still seems to dictate that skinny is pretty with very very likely accounts for many of the "diets" and eating disorders and body image disorders that are very prevalent in this country. I don't know why it's supposed to be pretty, but it is. I was very thin last summer, but I liked my yoga and my walks and my whole foods vegan life style. (I still practice the latter, with this baby, I ought to get into the other two again.)

I don't know! I personally have issues with any industry that consider size 12 a plus size. I'm a size 8 or 10, so I guess I must be getting ready for obesity according to their standards. I think it absolutely sends the wrong message to so many girls and young women. I think it's SO wrong. Why would anyone mind seeing nice clothes on normal-sized women? I haven't a clue.

The designers think that clothing looks more attractive on someone taller and thinner. And b/c a model has to make up for the 10 pounds added on camera or in pictures (photos add 10 pounds to you body).

because society has somehow gotten the idea that only skinny people are beautiful, which is a not true at all. so women feel the need to be skinny and start becoming anorexic. society needs to stop pressuring women to try to be what their veiw of "perfect" is, and women need to stop being so vain about their looks. who cares what anyone else thinks, beauty is on the inside.

i suppose its cheaper to make smaller clothes but i dont get why they have to be SO thin, a couple of sizes bigger shouldnt make much difference, then real sized girls would have a chance of becoming models instead of getting an eating disorder!

in my opinion, models have a certain look (thinness) to match the look of a clothes hanger. they model the clothes. people are mostly there to see the clothing & buy it, not to see the model.

because models are like advertisers and show there body alot to advertise clothes but there are some plus models out there two.

because they have issues and eating disorders that makes them think anorexic is beautiful

makes the clothes they are wearing look nice. that's why manicans are thin too. so u can focus on the clothing style they are advertising for and not the extra fat on the body.
