Network marketing, MLM or direct sales - call it whatever you want - can be a very lucrative opportunity. The mistake that most people make is that they don't investigate the opportunity fully before jumping in.

I've been coaching business seekers for 9 years and many of them started from scratch, with no experience and with well established companies and are making substantial incomes from home in a very reasonable time frame.

There is a big difference between an illegal pyramid (where only the top few make money) and a legitimate business opportunity where your work is rewarded. Don't misunderstand me, there are a lot of illegal pyramids masquerading as real businesses. There are also an outstanding variety of solid networking business opportunities.

Your first step is to learn to tell the difference.

Watch out for catch phrases like "pre launch phase" or "be one of the first". You don't need to be the first or even in the first hundred thousand to make money if the credibility of the company is high, the product is solid and there is a long term track record of success.

Here's a great question to ask anyone who want to "get you in today". As they always want to give you references of the people at the top of the company that make the most money, ask this simple question - "Would you please give me the names of three people that failed to make money with your company? I'd like a chance to speak with them to find out why the opportunity didn't work for them." You'll get some very interesting answers.

The real attraction of network marketing is that you can start to build your business part time, with very little cash outlay. And if you have a great mentor, the path to success has already been set. Just follow it.

But do your homework first. No one with a legitimate business will push you to sign up. Because if they are successful, they took a long time to research the opportunity themselves and they respect anyone who does the same.

I work one very spare time and I make between $500-$1000, but over the summer I plan to move to full time, because I am off of work. You have to make sure the timing is right with the company, that there is a need in the marekt place, and the you believe in the product. You also have ot realize that there is some work involved. That is one mistake. People get into mlm and think they can just sit back. People who are at the very top of our company still work like crazy, because they love what they do!
