It is a way to perpetuate monopoly. The two big parties have written the ballot access laws to make it really really hard for anyone else to get on the ballot. This means you don't have a choice. Richard Winger of Ballot Access news has been tracking these laws for years.

If you run for president, and you are not Republican or a Democrat, you will be sued to keep your name off the ballot
You will be official barred from televised debates and ignored by reporters.
The truth is both the Democratic and Republican partys are not the original parties in the United States. The Republicans didn't form until the 1840s. It never was a two party system, but the big two are working to make it a one party system--theirs.

The problem may not totally be the fault of the two party system. Politics has become a big business and many of the people involved are in it for the money or a career. There are not many people in politics for the good of the country. The original leaders were, but I do not see many like them any more. What we need is some honest men who are interested in what is best for America; and will stand by the constitution as it was written and intended by the founding fathers. Watching the primaries makes you think that people are merely buying the position in the White House. He who spends the most money wins. Take care and God bless America

Yes there was a guy that started his own party or Kingdom, He would not be part of any party system that was ruled and controlled by men. In fact he said that his Kingdom was no part of the world.
(1 John 2:15-17) . . .Do not be loving either the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him; 16 because everything in the world—the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the showy display of one’s means of life—does not originate with the Father, but originates with the world. 17 Furthermore, the world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever.
If we follow the wisdom here we might just stay alive and enjoy a time where there is no more wars, conflict's, and hater's of our fellow man? Party systems that dominate man to his injury? The only thing that has ever worked to our good has been accurate knowledge of the word of God and applying it in our lives. But very few people have ever done this. For example: James 4:1-5

The two party system gives a voter the idea that he/she has a lot of choice when they vote, but the truth is they have little or no choice available. The president is supposed to work for the citizens but in today's society, it's more like the president "wants" this or that and usually the wants involve a great deal of money and all the bills these days are packed with "fat" that is not needed for most people. Why we have two parties is really outrageous because every election I have ever voted in has a lot of different parties. People fail to understand that a party has one objective - and that is to win elections. Parties aren't even involved in a candidate's platform! Platforms are chosen at conventions by elected party members. What is our society coming to????

If you are talking about the US. We don't have a two party system. We do have 3rd parties, they just don't have enough money, or backing to do any good. We have two dominate parties, but there are more on you ballot. You just gotta look for their veiws. I believe america should have a stronger third party but it won't till people start to vote for the third party.

The two parties at play don't represent the values, interests, and opinions of most americans. Most Americans fall somewhere between the ideologies that the democrats and republicans stand for.
Neither Al Gore nor Rush Limbaugh are reflective of my views, thoughts, and interests.
What is best for the country is not best for the Democratic or Republican parties. They play for votes...not the best interest of America and Americans.

I hate Communism. A one party system.
Having two parties doesn't make it better.
We claim to have democracy, but what freedom of choice is it when u either select A or B, which than serves the intrest of his owns over the citizens.
Too shaw Too shaw I say.
France has more democracy than this country.

Not especially. Having two parties tends to moderate more extreme positions. Sometimes I think three or even four would be better, but two seems to function for the most part.

Yes, I'm alittle tired of it... they both pander to their extreme ends... while serving their corporate masters instead of the people and Constitution.
I'm registered as a Republican... but dislike the way we're portrayed HERE as religious zealots, war-mongers, or rich masters oppressing the poor...
I'm a Californian who loves my mountians, beaches, bays, wetlands and rivers... and I'm a veteran.
I wish the "middle" of us in America could form a 3rd party and toss the Republican and Democrat extremists to the side.

It's a plutocracy...
The term "plutocracy" is formally defined as government by the wealthy, and is also sometimes used to refer to a wealthy class that controls a government, often from behind the scenes. More generally, a plutocracy is any form of government in which the wealthy exercise the preponderance of political power, whether directly or indirectly.
