If it wasn't for that man in the moon we could. Also they're afraid the cow won't have anything to jump over.

no. we currently do not have the technology necessary to "blow up the moon into pieces."
Yes we have nuclear bombs. But even if you used EVERY nuclear weapon ever made, you would only be able to destroy less than 1/4 of the moon.
and why would you want to?
The moon controls tidal forces on earth, and it is pretty in the sky.
Another issue, anything larger than about 50feet in diamater would strike the earth. Not evaporate in the atmosphere. It would go straight through, and hit with the power of a nuclear weapon. for an example look at meteor crater in Arizona to see the power of an asteroid strike. Or look up Shoemaker Levy 9's comet strikes on Jupiter. You could still see where the clouds were deformed on Jupiter 6 months after the impacts.
large asteroids/meteors do not just evaporate in the sky, they often enter at over 20,000 miles an hour, and are through the atmosphere in less than 60 seconds. That is a lot of energy and momentum... I wouldn't want to be anywhere near where it would strike.

Yes we can, but as most things in life, just because we have the ability does not always me that we should.
Without the moon things would go pretty screwy. It isn't just some bright thing in the sky that we can live without.
Just like everything else in Nature there is a balance. Even when interference happens by some other force nature balances.
Basic law of Physics - for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. (I think this was one of Newton's but if not I am sorry for the misquote.)

Honestly, why would we want to do that?
The moon is responsible for the tidal action on Earth as well as being a key component of many organisms reproductive cycles.
Plus what would bring out the werewolves?

the moon is greatly responsible for keeping the earth in a steady orbit. without the moon we would go wildly out of control...there is a program i saw on the science channel called "if we had no moon" you should check it out....lots of good facts...
so while YES I am sure we could, it would be a really dumb thing to do...

Why would we want to? But yeah, I'm sure with all the technology today we could find a way to.
