you have shown courage by saying what your weight is on here. It depends on how tall you are . Dont feel ashamed because of your weight, feel shame if you have done something wrong, but not because of your weight. Keep a diary and note down what food you eat during the day. Find out what weight you should be by looking on the net. Then set out to make sure you eat healthy, get a friend to join you. Say for each half stone you lose get yourself a treat-like make-up or a dress. Give yourself a goal, cut out the choc and in with the veg and fruit. Good luck!

First of all you should ask your doctor to give you a blood test to check to see if you have thyroid problems. This can be a cause of inexplicable weight gain. I was putting on weight for no reason and the doctor discovered that my thyroid had given up so I went on thyroid pills and now my weight is going down. Very often thyroid problems go unchecked because someone just assumes that they are gaining weight due to poor diet and little excersize, this is not always the case.
Secondly, if there is one thing that you can put your finger on to be the reason for your weight gain, a bad chocolate habit or just boredom eating even, then try to cut it down. Put the money you would spend on that item each day into a pot and see how much you've got in the pot at the end of the week/month/year. Not only will your body be pounds lighter but your purse will be pounds heavier! Then go and treat yourself to something - a new pair of shoes, or a make over. Just anything you've always wanted, so long as you can see some gain at the end of your efforts instead of just loss.
I've lost a stone over the last 6 months by this and I feel so much better, as well as happier.
btw - don't deprive yourself entirely of the niceties, treat yourself sometimes, otherwise it becomes a drudge.
Oh, but if you're not worried about your weight then don't let other people worry you about it.
Best of luck.

No!!
Don't let anyone pressure you into feeling guilty and ashamed......... whatever the reason.
Just to give the correct facts....
1lb is 16ozs (1 pound = 16 ounces)
http://www.onlineconversion.com/weight_common.htm
I think you need help. Why do feel you are or should be ashamed?
The size zero fad is simply ridiculous, it is unhealthy and models and celebs should be more aware of the example they are setting, before portraying skinny bodies as "the norm".
What is normal anyway?
Use this link to the BBC, it will help you to check what your Body Mass Index (BMI) is.......
http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/healthy_living/your_weight/bmiimperial_index.shtml
It also has useful information about weight, and weight loss.
If you are concerned that you are a little overweight please go and see your GP, he will be able to help and advise you. He can also refer you to other help if he thinks you need it, either a dietician or nurse.
Please don't deal with these emotions on your own, and don't fall into the path of trying wonder diets or miracle cures, ending up with an eating disorder is not a good strategy.
For information about eating disorders see..
http://www.mind.org.uk/Information/Booklets/Understanding/Understanding+eating+distress.htm
For help, support and advice relating to your feelings I suggest you have a look at the Mind website
http://www.mind.org.uk/Information/Booklets/How+to/How+to+increase+your+self-esteem.htm
Also use the search facility to see if there is a local Mind in your area that you can access, it is easy to do, you can
http://www.mind.org.uk/Mind+in+your+area/
give them a ring and don't need to be referred by anyone else.
As you don't say how old you are can I suggest that if you are a child or young person that you phone Childline for some help and advice...
0800 1111
http://www.childline.org.uk/
However old you are, there is help and support available to you, and you need and deserve to get it.
Take care and look after yourself.

For a start you don't say what build you are, or how old you are or how much exercise you take. So you may not need to lose any weight at all.
Never feel ashamed of what are - ever. Its destructive and pretty pointless. If you think you are overweight the resolve to lose a few pounds and watch your self-esteem go skyward!!.

You should never be ashamed of yourself for the way you look. The danger is that your shame will turn inwards on you and result in negative attitudes and behaviours. Do you want to lose weight? Then believe and act as if you are your ideal weight, be confident and sure of yourself. Meanwhile go on a diet and get an excercise plan going. Dont punish yourself for how you look. change it, but do it positively and be proud of yourself.

not at all! beauty is on the inside, i know it sounds cheesy but its true, you don't mention how tall you are or how old you are but i know i have never been as slim as most of my friends and i only became confident in my appearance after leaving school. if your unhappy it might be worth cutting out a few things. just by taking small steps you can eventually notice big differences. also a healthier diet will make you feel happier too. good luck.

If it bothers you then I hope you will find the determination to do something about it, but I don't think you should feel ashamed of yourself for any reason.

It depends on how tall you are. If you are 4'0" then you perhaps you should loose weight because your BMI will be way too high, however, if you are an amazonian 6 footer then 13st is no problem.
