Rankings in the sciences are highly correlated with overall rankings -- so great schools will have great science departments.

MIT, Cal Tech, the Ivy League schools, the Ivy Equivalents (Duke, Stanford, Chicago, Rice, Northwestern), The Catholic Ivies (Notre Dame, BC, Georgetown), and the better state universities (Berkeley, GA Tech, anything in the Big Ten) will all have excellent programs.

MIT is well known, and has a good geology program. Other well known science schools include Cal Tech and Stanford; I know nothing about their geology programs. (Disclosure: I have a degree from MIT.)
