The brain finds it difficult to direct the tongue and other organs of speech to form different but closely related sounds so swiftly. But...if you READ the tongue twister out loud from a paper, that is, as it is written, you will have a much easier time and you will be able to read it very fast.

Becasue your eyes and mind are focusing on the next word as you are reading the last. When they are similar words, the brain connections aren't fast enought to get the tongue to do the right thing. Some people are amazing at it. Like the guy from the Bloodhound Gang. Wow.
