Great French composer -- his music is very beautiful, very dreamy.

I believe he composed around the same time that Impressionism was popular in painting, although I don't know if the musical era was also called impressionism.

Claude Debussy, a French composer, the best known among the impressionists along with Maurice Ravel. You would probably immediately recognize his Claire de Lune from many movies.

If memory serves, he was the foremost of the Impressionistic composers (Ravel was probably second). The music appreciation discs we used for the course included Prelude to "The Afternoon of a Faun" by Debussy, and Bolero by Ravel.
