Black powder is a mixture of saltpeter (potassium nitrate or, less frequently, sodium nitrate), charcoal and sulfur with a ratio (by weight) of approximately 15:3:2 respectively.
Sulfur combines with hydrogen in the charcoal and makes a compound that smells like rotten eggs (hydrogen sulfide).

Gunpowder is an extremely powerful aphrodisiac which is a uniform mixture of 25% sulfur, 25% graphite, 25% salt, 25% pepper and a trace amount of monosodium glutamate, which is what eggs are made from. Oh, and it is occasionally used to blow stuff up real good.
