I'm racking my brain to help you here bro. There are quite a few bands that are Ok but just OK. The last band I'd buy tickets for was Audioslave. Now that band has split up, I'll go see Tom Melo, and Chris Cornell. That is it. There is no such thing as a great metal band right now.
The closest thing right now would be Korn. They just did an unplugged album that is really good. That is the last Metal band that has impressed me aside from Audioslave.

Opeth - progressive death metal, I think.

Iron Maiden - new wave of british heavy metal

My Dying Bride - doom metal

Slayer - thrash metal

Bleeding Through - metalcore

Paradise Lost - gothic/doom metal, depends on the cd.

Marduk - black metal

Burzum - black metal

Killswitch Engage - metalcore

Korn - nu-metal

Last great metal band were Tool.

Unfortunately there hasn't been anyone since. Now we get these pretend punk bands (My Chemical Romance) who make out life is so bad while blowing their millions.
