I'm just wondering how we know when the war is over and it's okay to send large numbers of our troops home. Do we envision some kind of surrender on the part of terrorists? Do we think that, by shooting them and bombing them, we're making friends and they'll run out and wave a white flag? What is the sign that the fight is over?

Well... if "no more terrorism" is the sign... as you guys keep pointing out... no attacks here since 9/11. So anti-American terrorism must be over. Far as I know, we have no obligation to protect Iraq from terrorists. Why are we still there?

That is precisely what I was saying about the definition of Bush's 'victory' in Iraq and or against terrorism. Terrorism is any act by some groups or individuals to use terror tactics to further their own goals. Have you noticed that no one talks about the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City but an american? That in fact was an act of terrorism. So the answer to your question is, there will not be any sign when terrorism is over. Terrorism can happen at any time from anywhere.

Terrorism will never be completely eradicated. As long as there is some profit (not necessarily financial) to be made in violating others' rights, people will begin to find more and more hideous ways to do it. Now, since your question plainly focuses on Iraq... The terrorism there will likely never end either. However, our part in this theatre of the war will be over when Iraq is fully capable of defending itself against the physical and political attacks that will inevitably result from our departure (no matter when it is). Sooner or later, it will no longer be profitable for the terrorists to attack Iraq, and they will move on to softer prey. Meanwhile, we must ensure that we remain alert to all forms of terrorism, not just those from the Middle East.

Thinking that all will end in 08 is foolish, Didn't end after the Iran hostage's in 79, didn't end in Beirut 83, didn't end WTC 93, the Cole, the Us Embassies, or 9/11.....we are just repeating the cut and run so the next generation can fight it later for votes today..

You will know when terrorism and the threat of terrorism is over, you will know this by the fact that the entire Middle East will be a giant smoking hole with oil lines running out of it to ports offshore.
