There was a survey a while ago, but I've lost the reference.

Also Iraqis were asked whether they thought it was okay to kill US troops. I can't remember the %age either. Any reference to these surveys will be appreciated. Thanks.

This is a trick question.

You are looking at Iraqis as a whole. About 70% of Kurdish Iraqis want us to stay in order to guarantee they don't get overrun by the Turks or Iranians. They are friendly to the US, and very little violence against US troops occurs in the Kurdish regions. The Northern part of Iraq is actually the most stable, and most pro-US.

However....

The Arab (Sunni and Shiite) central and Southern portions of Iraq uniformly (85+%) want us to leave without delay. Their government does not want us to leave, however, because they are afraid that US forces are all that stands between them and a full blown civil war.

All that are not working for Halliburton.

It's the same as Germany after WWII They did not want the US building bases in Germany.

But 50 years later when Newt's Congress forced the base closings in Germany, they appealed to the World court claiming it would damage the local economy.

any poll or survey of the Iraqi people is bogus.

they aren't used to being polled, there's no way to tell if they answer any question honestly or if they give the answer they think the poller wants to hear.

no one should make any deductions from any survey of the Iraqi people.

I don't think any survey in Iraq is going to be anywhere close to correct.. it's not like they can call them up.. go door to door.. there's no way to get a decent population sample... so where would the numbers come from.. those that have been brought to the embassies or prisons or police stations.. or word of mouth.. or counts of protests.. or pure speculation.. for or against.. polls from Iraq are pretty worthless imho.

The population of Iraq is roughly 26,000,000 people. The headlines claimed there were 10,000 protestors demanding that US troops leave Iraq. That figures out to less than 4/100 ths of 1%, or 1 person out of every 2600 people. Hardly worth mentioning, in my opinion.

If Bush, Cheney, Rice and McCain all think it's safe there then must be. Republicans in Congress agree. Would they lie?
