I don't know much about the Russian spoken or written language, but I do know that USSR was the English acronym for Union of Soviet Socialist Republics...seeing as how their alphabet is not the same as our (English) alphabet, this was the English version.

CCCP is 'USSR' using the Russian alphabet.

Do you know what we call 'Duetschland'?

EDIT: Sunnybums got it...

They are the initial letters of the cyrillic words for Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

The western translation of it is Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik - unfortunately I can't put the cyrillic here but see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Union for the proper answer
