It's called government failure.

People born since about 1963 need to swat up on what it took to get men on the moon. Then they would not keep asking these dumb questions.

Getting men and women to orbit is easy now, but that is all we have been doing since 1972 because of the immense cost to get humans and their life support systems beyond orbit.

It's all about weight. Read how it took 8 years to get the lunar lander light enough for launch, but strong enough to land on the pockmarked moon.

If people knew the difficulties they would be more forgiving of why we have not been back to the moon.

Costs too much. If you are not a wage earner, ask your parents if they want higher taxes so we can go back to the moon.

I'll guess the answer to that.

We are not on the Moon again because it still costs too much. People have the mistaken idea that technology has advanced so much that we could go to the Moon now much cheaper than we did in 1969. But it isn't so. Does a car cost less today than in 1969? NoooooOOOOoooo. Does an airplane cost less than in 1969? NooooOOOOoooo. Does a rocket cost less now than in 1969? NoooOOOOoooo. Does a computer cost less now than in 1969? YES. But that is the exception, not the rule.

up until recently there was no reason to send atronauts back to the moon..Scientifically there are cheaper ways to collect data, politically it's very expensive and i'm not sure the taxpayer would like to see there dollars spent on such a venture.
However, since water has been discovered on the moon the big players (US,China,Russians ) are all keen to establish a presence there,I think the US has a manned mission planned for 2018 and I am sure the others are gearing up for a mission of there own .

We need a good enough reason to go back, other than political posturing. We beat the Russians there nearly 40 years ago, and that was a good reason to go (then)... but we need a better reason to go today.

We've been there 7 times. It takes a lot of time and money to go there, you can't just leave whenever you want. We don't have the equipment anymore.
