Biology and physiology are good preparations. Make sure you know math and chemistry as well. I would strongly suggest that you also try a minor in a foreign language (especially Spanish) which may help you secure a great residency spot.

I second the first poster: knowing languages in this day and age is always an advantage. That's not to say that you should go into a language major just because we say so :)

In general, I think it's important that you choose a major that you LIKE, that you can focus in on for four years, as opposed to what you think medical schools will be impressed with. It's really more important that you do your best work, in whatever major you pursue. I think going for something you can be passionate about and excel at will produce a record that speaks for itself, and is impressive in itself.

And as far as what you need for medical school, of course, you need to make sure that those requirements fit in with what you would need to complete for you non-science major.

I know you're probably so frustrated trying to figure out what to do with your life, and I just have to tell you... really, try to calm down, for your own sake. :) You'll figure it out: give yourself an opportunity to think about what it is YOU want to do, what you like, what interests you, as opposed to worrying too much about what's impressive. You're so much more likely to do work that will stand on its own if you choose something that's fits your interests and passion. AND... you may even find that through this whole process, you find you like certain things more/less than you had originally though, and you might change majors! And that's okay too, I did it! :)

It's not an easy path, but engineering.

I was a chemical engineering major and at least two of my classmates went to med school directly afterward.

Major in a second language. You could communicate with more patients.

Many med schools look highly upon students who studied classics or humanities.
