internet explorer, what is cuasing this and what can i do to fix it

Try Firefox: http://www.getfirefox.com
When the error happens, try pinging a site to see if the connection is still okay.
- Start > Run > Type "cmd" and press OK
- Type "ping www.yahoo.com"
- If you don't get all timeouts, then the connection should be okay (meaning it's just Internet Explorer)

you may be getting clobbered because of your page file. Virtual memory that gets swapped in and out. this can be done in control panel>system>advanced>performance settings>advanced and increase the vertual memory (page file).
