My sister had a hard time getting pregnant after getting off of it. Plus she had like a 2 month long period and found out that she had cancer after being on the shot for a few years. So if your thinking about going on it I wouldn't!

Well... the point of the shot is to prevent pregnancy.

But I'm guessing you mean after you stop taking it?

Here's how it works... you get a shot every 12 weeks. If you go longer than 13 weeks between shots, then you have to have a pregnancy test because it's a possibility.

HOWEVER... after stopping Depo, it can take up to 2 years before you're able to get pregnant. It just depends on how your body readjusts after no medication.

Nothing is 100% effective against pregnancy except abstinence. So you CAN get pregnant on depo. I know women who have.

Please reconsider the shot. I was on it for four years and am so glad I am off it.

If you are off the shot, great! It can take up to two years to get pregnant, or you can get pregnant right off the shot. Someone I know had to see a fertility specialist.

Depo Provera. I think its been said there are no fertility side effects, it just may take a while to come off of the hormonal effects. Though interesting fact, Depo Provera is what is used to chemically casterate men. (but they need multible doses for it to work every few months)
