I started spotting March 26th and miscarried on March 31st/April 1st I started having contraction like pains and was bleeding. The following 2 days I passed clots and some tissue. I went and had an ultrasound done 3 days later and there was still some stuff left inside. The day after the ultrasound I passed more. Then the second ultrasound was performed and it showed that there was still some left but that it was thinning.
In the mean time my blood level are dropping
I went to the dr.'s today and they said that everything looks okay and that I should get rid of the rest in the weeks to come but they will still monitor my blood levels. I have stopped bleeding and now just spotting and my cervix is closed (according to the dr. )

Anyway my question is this how long natural miscarriages last?Since the ultrasound said I still had some left inside I figured I would need a D&C. But the dr. said no and I will do it on my own. Is this how it works when you do it naturally? Thanks

Does it sound like a D&C would be needed or eventually my body will get rid of it? Has anyone experienced this and later their body expelled the rest?

Thanks Stasia. That answered my questions. So since my levels are dropping then a D&C is not always necessary. Thanks this was my 1st pregnancy so I was clueless, especially about miscarriages.

I had a miscarriage in July of 2006. I was 8 weeks pregnant. I first noticed that when I went to the bathroom I had a little speck of blood on the tissue, if I wasn't paying attention, I wouldn't have even noticed it. Two days later, I was bleeding like I was on my period. I passed clots also, but it took about a week and a half for everything to happen. My doctor still had me doing HCG tests to see if my levels were dropping because that meant that I wouldn't have to have a D&C.

I have had two miscarriages and done it both ways. The first time, my experience was much like yours. I just started to pass it on my own. I know that as long as your HCG level continue to decrease, there is no need for a D and C. It took me several weeks to finally get back down to a zero HCG level (anything more than 5 means there is still pregnancy hormone in your body). Your DR knows what he's talking about. You'll pass it all, and you'll be fine. No worries!

everyone is different when it comes to miscarriages... i have two friends that had to have the d&c's done and was so worried that I would have to have that done because they weren't good experiences for them. I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks.. it started with a little big of blood on a friday, by friday night when i got home from work, everything had happened and it sucked. i was scheduled for an ultrasound on Monday. Everything came out of me and I was cleaned out. When I went in for the ultrasound, it showed that i was no longer pregnant, and everything was cleaned out. I then had to follow up with the doctor (not my normal one) after being probed and he had the nerve to ask me if i was actually pregnant. i thought he was rude to ask me that, but he told me that most women don't pass everything naturally. so like i said, everyone is different... my happened all in one night and then i just layed around for the whole weekend and didn't do anything.

First, I just want to say sorry for your loss and pain. It was so hard to get over the shock when I had my miscarriage, even though it was early. It was something I dealt with everyday for months. As to your question, I don't want to misinform you; I'll just say that with my own, I passed everything in a few days, and I recovered quickly. I would trust your doctor. If there is just a little bit of tissue left, I'm sure there is no need for a D&C, and your body will take care of it. I wish you the best.

Yes the less medication and wear on your body the better. Natural elimination is more emotionally painful, but healthier for the body. Your body naturally rids itself of toxins, etc. You will be just fine.

My mother had 5 natural MC's (I was a natural miracle child) and had to endure ALL natural procedures, from spotting to naturally passing a 3pound baby.

You will be fine and this is the best way. Just continue to monitor every change to your body.

The contracting is coming from your cervix getting back to normal. Believe or not - the body looks at pregnancy as "not normal" its a feedback mechanism that stretches the body past its normal limits.

of all the ones that I had they lasted between 7-10 days. Just like a terrible period. Usually if you are soaking more than 1 heavy flow pad an hour past day 7 they start to worry but other than that I wouldn't worry if you are spotting or lightly bleeding. You would be amazed how fast your body has already replensed the blood that you have lost.

Unfortunatly yes, everyone was different, I feel for you, mine only took 3 weeks to do it naturally and it was the worst and longest time of my life, it will end when it ends, I know that sucks, if the doc says everything is fine, then there is nothing for you to worry about, it will just happen. Im so sorry to hear about your loss, I hope your not still experiencing pregnancy pains, the whole miscarraige process for me I was nautious, tired, dizzy, all that for nothing. It will end and dont feel worried, your body is doing what it needs to do, it just takes time.
