My husband just told me about this program where people foster soldier's pets until the soldiers get back home. I couldn't find anything on the web. Any hints?
Also, is it very hard to foster animals? I'm thinking about having to give it back after growing attached to it...
Any thoughts?

our family did it. we just did it as a friend sort of thing. someone needed someone to watch their dog, and so we did. there want a program
it was great, while we had the dog (keep in mind, you could get an animal that does not listen, or who is not house broken)
but when we had to give it back, we were devistated. we had him over a year and a half.
we went and bought our own dog after that. it was really hard to give him up, after he became such a big part of our family.
also........ the soldier may not come back.......... are you prepared for this animal to be permanet........

i would say that if you can deal with losing the animal when the owner returns home, then it was a great experience.

Fostering an animal can be hard, and it's not a job for everyone.

You're guaranteed to become attached the the animal, especially if the fostering if for long-term.

Here is a website to apply to become a foster home for a military pet:

I foster consistantly and yes it is hard but you have to remind your self not to get attached because the dog is going to a good family and you will open up a spot for another dog . It hard sometimes but you have to keep that in the back of your mind.

I couldnt do it-but i get attached to dogs when I have them in for 2 days. I think it could cause fights tho-its easy to start to think of a pet as "your own" in no time
