Anytime you divide and there are fractions involved, it means to multiply by the reciprocal. 3/5 X 1/9= 3/45, when simplified 1/15

3/5 divided by 9 equals 3/5 x 1/9. The 3 on top cancells the 9 on bottom and leaves you with 1/5 x 1/3. Then multiply across and you get 1/15

Some review points:
1) a whole number can be written as the number divided by one (any number divided by one stays the same value),
so 9 = 9/1.
2) to divide by a fraction, multiply by its inverse (its "flipped form")
e.g. 2/3 ÷ 1/3 = 2/3 x 3/1
3) to multiply 2 fractions, multiply the tops, multiply the bottoms, and reduce to lowest terms.
2/3 x 3/1 = 6/3 =2
So 3/5 ÷ 9
is 3/5 ÷ 9/1
or 3/5 x 1/9 (you changed the sign and flipped the second #)
multiplying tops and bottoms gives you 3/45,
and reducing to lowest terms gives you 1/15.

3/5 divided by 9 is worked out as 3/5 times1/9 which would be 3/45.
Any time we divide fractions we invert the divisor and multiply.
Let me clear some terms
Dividend-the number thats being divided-here3/5
Divisor-the number we divide by-here 9
Numerator-number above the bar ..for eg3/5-numerator is 3
Denominator-number below the bar-for eg 3/5-denominator is 5
Every whole number has 1 as the denominator...so in your problem 9's denominator is 1
Write it out as 3/5 divided by9/1
What did I say..invert the divisor and multiply
Here your divisor is actually9/1
Invert it..it becomes 1/9
Multiply-3/5x1/9=3/45
Just remember every whole number ,when no denominator is given..its denominator is 1
When simplified it gives you 1/15 i.e 3 goes in 45 15 times

Ah, Jim has it wrong! It is 1/15 is the correct answer.

-- / --- = ---- * ----
5 1 5 9
Cross cancel the 3 and the 9. # becomes 1, 9 becomes 3. then multiply accross. 1*1= 1; 5*3=15

dividing it by 9 is the same as multiplying it by 1/9. 1/9 x 3/5 = 3/45

it is (3/5) : 9 = 3*1 / 5*9 = 3/45
and if we divide each part by 3, we get 3:3 / 45: 3 = 1/15
