Babies love to sleep in bassinets, because the close walls comfort them (they came from pretty close quarters in the womb).
Keep the little darling in your room in the bassinet as long as he/she will fit in it, or as long as you like, whichever comes first!

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that baby sleep in your room (but in a separate bed, either bassinet or crib) for the first six months to prevent SIDS. I hadn't planned on having him sleep so close to us, but when I had an emergency c-section I realized it would be much easier for breastfeeding if I didn't have to travel far during the night. I'm thrilled that I did - it's made me feel much more comfortable both physically and emotionally. He sleeps in the crib in his room during the day, so he's already getting used to sleeping there when he grows out of the bassinet, which will be soon at the rate he's going! Do whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

yeah try to get the baby used to the bassinet to where you wont spoil the baby when you put the baby in the bed with you. I would be afraid that I will roll over on top of the baby or something and smother it . That is what my sister did for the first few nights.

I kept my son in a bassinet for 2 months then a crib in my room for 2 yrs.
My daughter, I did the same but in my room for longer, since she has apnea. Im pregnant again and plan on doing the same.
ITS FINE. It all boils down to what you are comfy with. If you feel better , and feel more secure you will rest better and just do better in general. You will hear the baby much quicker, when its stiring to wake, I feel it also give a baby great security to know mommy is close by.

That is what I did for the first 3 months. It was pretty easy having baby in the room with me. They wake up so much at night and it is easy to be at an arms reach. It also calmed me to hear the baby breathe. After 3 months, babys can be full enough to sleep 10 hours at night. Both of my kids were sleeping through the night by 4 months. Good luck!

Having the bassinet in your room, will probably be more of a comfort to you. But whatever you do, please resist the urge to let the baby sleep in your bed. It's harder than you think to break the habit when the get older and if you're a sound sleeper, it could be dangerous to the baby. Congrats on your new baby or soon-to-be-here baby.

Yes!
I kept both my boys in the bassinet in my room to check them through the night to be sure they were breathing. I was worried about SIDS (crib death). I did this until they grew too large for the bassinet.

You do not have to have the baby in your room, but most new mom's like to. It is easier to sleep if you aren't worried about the baby. If you are breastfeeding it is easier too, because you don't really have to get up to feed them, you just reach over and pick them up. Just trust your instincts. If you feel better having the baby with you then that is what you should do, but if you don't feel it necessary, then I'm sure you'll wake up if the baby needs you. Just be sure to get a room monitor.
