I bought a vintage alligator leather bag, but how can I be sure if its genuwine?

Turn it over to look at the part that is not highly visible, put about a spoonful of cold water on it, and let it sit for about ten minutes. Then smell it. If it has that swampy odor to it then it is genuine alligator.

just ask the salesperson at the store or smell it...
the smell would smell different when fake, but if you have never smelled real alligator leather than never mind

also fake leather products have a different touch to them since the fake kind feel more like plastic and if you pull at the material it will stretch which means its fake

and chances are if it is 'vintage' it is probably fake

It smells like chicken.

Actually, there should be a materials tag somewhere on the bag that states what the material is made out of. Look for it. If it doesn't have this, then you are out of luck.

if the scales are uneven but the other sides are really small

use a fire test to its end if it bern so it is not real cause real one is fire resestance
