I've just gotten a scar redone on my stomach, and I was wondering if anyone knew what it was like if you'd pop it open or open it up. I'm so worried I'm going to open up mine and I wanted to know any signs to tell that you've opened it. [ theres a patch over it so I dont know when it opens or anything ]

depends on how large the incision was as to how painful it may be. I've seen large incisions dehisce (come apart), and the client's intestines fell out (he eviscerated) which naturally was quite bloody and painful.(he did survive) But long before an incision comes apart completely there is usually heavy bleeding. If your dressing is clean, don't worry.

Scar tissue is collagen based and is stronger than the tissue it replaced (elastin and reticular cells). You are unlikely to pop the scar but the fascia under the scar can feel ripped or torn.

You can herniate through the abdominal tissue beneath the scar. Have it checked by your doctor, especially if there is any fullness or outpocketing.
