Because liberal politicians want to use it as an excuse to redistribute wealth and stifle capitalism.
P.S. to FascFiter: You used my favorite trite liberal catch-phrase! "The debate is over." That's just what liberals say when they've lost an argument and can't answer their opponents' questions.

Government wants to stick their noses in everything, and this issue of so-called Global Warming is a hot one! The threat of death, for any reason, death of the earth, death of human-kind, will be one of the first issues a Lib will jump at. Fear tactics are a way of controlling people, and keeping them in-line. Liberals are the ones who want a socialist government, to have universal health-care, where we would wait in long lines for medical attention, and be unable to choose our own doctors. Conservatives want a free-society, which America was born, with every intent to be.
If the world is warming, that is Nature taking her course, and there is not a damn thing humans can do about it. The Eco-system is Nature. I am tired of humans trying to play God. They are wasting their precious time on nonsense, instead of doing something they can change. Our educational system! Our children now, need us more than some iceburg melting in the North Pole!

Well, when you've got a government that invades countries for oil(usage results in global warming), it makes it difficult to argue global warming. When your president profits from the amount of oil sold here in the states, it tough to convince them to stop selling oil in the name of pollution control. So that's why it's a political issue. The people profiting conveniently don't think it's harmful to the environment, because the second they acknowledge it, they have to take action.
What I don't get is if it's harmful to the environment, why not err on the side of caution? It could only help. Every reputable scientist has agreed that humans are responsible for the increase in global temperatures. Yet, Bush and his pals(none of whom are scientists) claim that there's no way humans could have an affect on our environment......ignorance at it's best.

What liberals have to gain is this: CONTROL.
When people are scared sh1tless, they tend to give up control and can be easily persuaded to do just about anything.
While global warming may be a fact, there is no proof that it would be bad for us (in fact it would be good)
And there is no real proof that humans had anything to do with creating it since it has happened many times before.

You have discovered the dirty little secret. Global warming is a cause created to serve political goals. Any time a political movement can be seen to be doing "good" while inflicting harm on their oponents it is a win-win thing for them.

Money. The taxation and the research grants alone will have big price tags, which equates to more power. Democrats want to "own" this issue.

The debate is OVER among scientists (except for a handful of cranks and oil industry whores). The ball is now in the politicians' court to DO something about it.
