I'm from England, and I don't live in a posh house, I'm not snooty and pretty easy going. My teeth aren't brown. I don't have a nanny, and I am not a nanny. None of the guys I know are gay.

But all I see on american TV and films is us represented like this. On Fraiser, Friends and Bridget Jones.
Wheras reality is more like The Office, and Extras, this shouldnt be the case.
Why is Simon Cowel, and Anne robinson representing us, those are mean people? they are mean even for us on TV. why is nasty strict people our export?

I like america, but sometimes you guys hurt my feelings.

That's a two way street.

I'm from America, I'm not fat, stupid, illiterate, or a war monger. I'm not rich, or spoiled either. I didn't vote for Bush, I'm not lazy; I'm a diesel engine technician, and I work at least 50 hours a week. The British media portrays Americans as negatively as the American media portrays Brits, don't you think? Both are stereotypes, right? Nice to meet you.

I didn't write or direct any of those shows and I have done nothing to personally hurt your feelings. I have been to England and didn't bother you while I was there.
Have you watched British shows with impressions of Americans? It's not exactly accurate, and usually not very nice, but I am not holding you responsible for the stereotypes nor are my feelings hurt.
As for people who are gay, you may very well know a closeted one. No, it's not a stereotypical British thing, but an honest international thing.

Response to your additional details: I have no control over what is aired here any more than you can personally control what is aired over there. It's controlled by rich people.
You are so hung up on how Americans are viewing the British that you have been sold on some very untrue American stereotypes.

Why are you judging America's impression of England by what you see on TV. That's sort of childish.

Please don't judge us by Hollywood!! Do you think the way they portray people who live here is accurate?? And how is America portrayed in England? Loud and boorish and game-show-host-ish the way they spoof us on Monty Python??
