For the first child I will say after. However, every pregnancy is different and every woman is different. My first came on his due date, the second a week early and my third was 4 days early.

i read a statistic on pregnancyweekly.com that nearly half the mothers give birth a little earlier than their due date, but then people also say that with first time mothers, they tend to go past their due dates. I'm having my first in June and after gaining only 18 pounds on my tiny frame, everyone thinks my son will be early. All of my friends who had babies were a day or two late, which isn't a big deal. You can't really tell though, and you still have a long way to go. Good luck!

Usually with the first chld it is more common to have the baby after the due date. But this isn't a tried and true statement. Some mothers go early, some right on time and some later. As long as the baby is doing well, you'll just have to wait. Congrats on your pregnancy..it's such a wonderful feeling to know that you are going to have a baby

Congratulations!! For your first pregnancy, you will more than likely give birth past your due date. That is only the saying though. I made the exception with my first child. I was due March 28 and went into natural labor on March 24. Everyone is different. Good luck and congratulations!!

60% of babies are born on or before their due date.

However, first time pregnancies are more likely to be the ones that occur on or just after their due date.

So basically its about a 50/50 chance. YOu're considered full term at 37 weeks so anytime from 37-42 weeks is acceptable. ... but most docs will induce anywhere from 40-42 weeks.

One or the other is really NOT more common, It's a best estimate and you could just as likely give birth on the EXACT due date.
Best of Luck and Congratulations!

It seems that most women go past their due date with the first baby they say. However I know a few 1st time mom's who were 1 to 2 weeks early.

It's an individual thing. My first child was 10 days early; my second 10 days late. It all works out and the baby will come when it is time.

It is more common to have the baby after your due date, sometimes even two weeks.
