I saw a tattoo on a guy that had Alpha on one arm and Omega on the other and am curious as to it's meaning.

Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet, and Omega is the last letter. So it's as if he had "First" and "Last" tattooed on his arms. It's like having "A" and "Z" on them. Big deal.

It doesn't mean anything in particular, although he might like people to think it means something deep and mysterious.

In the Bible (Revelation 1:8, and elsewhere), God says, "I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end," so maybe your tattooed friend wants you to think he's God or something like that. What a moron.

But on second thought, maybe the guy is religious and has those tattoos to remind him of that passage in the Bible. If that's the case then I was too quick to criticize. Oops.

In the world of of social animals it means being the highest ranked or most dominant individual of one's sex, such as the alpha female of the wolf pack.

Omega is the 24th and last letter of the Greek alphabet so it means the last of any series; the end. It is the vowel sound represented by this letter, when it has a capital "O" in front it which means it is the long vowel sound of "o".

God Almighty is often referred to as the Alpha and the Omega because He encompasses everything, and all time. The words mean the Beginning and the End. He was, and is, and evermore shall be.
