Mean. Add up all results and divide by how many there are.
Median. The middle result with half above and half below.
If an even number of results take half way between the
middle two.
Stem and leaf plot. Used if you are going to have lots of result many starting with similar numbers e.g. lots of results in the 20s 30s 40s 50s etc. Put 20, 30, 40, 50 down the side of the page and then as results come in put them in the appropriate row, e.g. 37 would go in the 30s row.

The mean is the average- to find it add all of the given data together and then divide by the number of numbers (get it?). The median is the physical middle number when you write out all the numbers in order from smallest to largest. Along with these terms is usually the mode, which is the most frequently occurring number. A stem and leaf plot it used to arrange numbers so you can find the mean, median and mode more easily. Here's an example:

A set of numbers: 13, 24,17, 8, 7, 25, 16, 33, 21, 13, 24, 6

The "stem" would be the number in the tens column and the leaves are the numbers in the ones column, like this:

0 | 6, 7, 8
1 | 3, 3, 6, 7
2 | 4, 4, 5
3 | 3

Now all of the numbers are neatly arranged. You can easily find the median, which is 16 in this case. It's easier to explain in person... :-p

The median of a set of numbers is the number in the middle once the numbers are arranged in ascending or descending order. If there is an odd number in the set, then just find the middle number. It therre is an even number in the set, then take the average of the two numbers in the middle.

The mean is the average so just add the numbers and then divide sum by the number of numbers.

A stem and leaf chart simply represents numbers by a stem and a leaf. Thus the numbers 31,35,and 37 would be shown as a stem of 3 and leafs of 1, 5, and 7.

mean = average/ add all of them up and devide by the number of numbers
median= put the numbers in order and the one in the middle is the median. if there is an even number of numbers take the two in the middle add them and devide by two.
stem and leaf plot= it there were the numbers 24,36,67,89,126 the stems would be: 2,3,6,8,9,and 12 and the leafs would be: 4,6,7,9,and 6. you would put the stems on one side of a line and the leaves on the other and label it over the stems put stem and over the leaves put leaves.
