I am from South Louisiana and here Memaw means grandmother. All the cajuns around here use it.

My cousin's fiance is from North Carolina, and she calls her grandmother memaw, but so does her mother, aunts, and uncles. Not sure where it comes from, but I know it's more common in the southern part of the US.

I don't know where it originated (we are from Kentucky/Ohio) but we called my grandma memaw and my grandpa papaw. I have never heard of a mother being called memaw only grandma

Memaw and mamaw are both forms of grandma as where they come from no clue, maybe babynese?

Memaw is usually what children call their grandmother. I don't know where is orginates from, but this is what my son calls my mother.

ive always heard that being refered to as grandma but being a mother in my opinion mommy is my favorite (even though my 3 year old calls me mom and it kinda drives me up the wall)
