My son has been spitting up since he was born. He's now almost 4 months old and spitts up everytime we feed him. All the doctor has said was to use mylicon infant drops. He has a doctors appointment soon but I'd like to get some help before then. Does anyone have any advise.

Keep a steady supply of bibs, hon because you have a spitter! My daughter did the same and eventually grew out of it. It doesn't hurt the baby at all, it's just a little unsightly and sometimes stinky. Some things that might help are to be sure not to jostle the little one too much within the first 20 min after meals and be sure to burp him thoroughly after eaver 2-3 ounces of formula/breastmilk. I hope this helps, but hang in there. Your little spitter will stop eventually.

It is not normal for a baby to spit up every time he or she eats.

My son has reflux. He spit up after every feeding until he was 6 months. He still has reflux, but with out the spitting up. Some things you can try to decrease the spitting up and/or pain caused by reflux are:

Give smaller, more frequent feedings.
Keep baby upright for at least 30 minutes after a feeding.
Make sure clothing/pants/diaper are loose around baby's waist.

Also, check out this website for information and a supportive forum:

My son has been on Prevacid since he was an infant. This, or some other type of medication, may be suitable for your baby too. Discuss it with your doctor.

I hope you get lots of answers at the doctor's appointment.

My son is almost two months and consently spits ups. I was so worried because my first never spit up. Well the doctor ordered an upper G.I. to make sure everything was working and it is working all fine, knowing this lets me feel like he is okay. Also I have discovered my son over eats and this causing most of his spitting up. Try feeding him a little less 4oz instead of 5 kind of thing.

my daughter spit up what seemed to be TORRENTS of formula 90% of the time we fed her. I think she did it until about 3 months. Some kids spit up a lot. Have you tried switching out his formula? Sometimes that helps. As long as he's gaining weight, hydrated, and healthy he's most likely going to be ok. My daughter is 2 1/2 now and grew out of spitting up. Keep your doctor's appt and try the new formula in the mean time.

My youngest (now 11 months) used to be like that. He would spit up the formula or breastmilk all the time. His pedi. suggested using a different kind of formula. We were using regular Similac Advanced w/ Iron...we ended up switching to Similac Advanced Lactose Free...and that stopped him from spitting up. We aren't sure why he was spitting up...because he was fine after we switched him...then when we started giving him regular milk he was fine...so he wasn't latose intolerant. Now he's on only milk and doesn't spit up.

Talk to your doctor/pedi. about switching formula because he could be lactose intolerant...or his tummy might just not like it...might need something a little lighter on his stomach! Hope this helps...I know how fusterating it can be.

Hi i delt with this problem with my son. At first they said he had acid reflex and gave him zantac. Then he grew to about 6 months and we stopped well he was an unually fussy baby so a second opion sent us to a childrens hospital to check him out they did an upper gi and found out indeed he had an acid refex they treated him with zantac he is 3 now and has been off it for about 6 months. they gave him x rays when he was 3 month but that didn't tell them that he had it Only when he is older they can run that test. They determine by the symptoms. Good luck.

My daughter was a spitter, too. She LIVED in a bib her first several months. Unless your baby seems irritated by it, then don't worry. It will pass. Forget the all cotton bibs, cuz the older he gets (ie, the more he eats) the bigger and wetter the messes will be. Invest in a large supply of the bibs that have the vinyl-ish backing so his clothes underneath stay dry. My daughter always had little red irritation bumbs on her neck and chest until we started using those kind of bibs. We got them at wal-mart.

my son did that too when he was so little . Try to fed him upright as possible .get the bottles with the vents inside of them to reduce the airintake and give him formula from sililac i think it is with less spit up by the baby .And make sure you burp him really good !!!
