My 9 month old has stopped drinking his formula, water or any kind of juice. He will eat baby food and rice cereal, but thats it. This just started last night. He is also uncontrollable fussy.. I walk him around and pat his back... Its not gas... He is teething, could that be causing it?

I have tried baby Orajel, ice cold things to chew on, and baby tylenol.. He refuses to still drink after that.. I will try the sippy cup thing. I've also schedualed a doctors appointment for tomorrow

Most definately, when sucking on the nipple for the bottle it creates pressure on the gums and affected areas from teething. Just give him some baby orajel, and if he's that bad off a little baby tylenol. Then he should be able to eat. Especially with the Orajel, it works very quickly, so they can eat almost immediately afterwards.
Its sad because sometimes, they are very hungry and in way too much pain to eat.

Sound like teething to me. Try have him drink out of a sippy cup or other cup. If it's teething some of the teething gels worked wonders for us. There are organic/homeopathic varieties too if you're into that.
If you don't think he gets enough liquid water down his cereal. We had to resort to spoon feeding my daughter formula for a day or two... no fun, but necessary.
If you're still concerned about his fussing call the nurse at your sons pediatrician he/she will probably be able to calm your nerves. If you're wound up and nervous he'll pick up on it and the fussing just even worse. The reassurance from a pro (not that us mothers doesn't know :-) ) might help your stress and make the next few days a little easier.

Yes it could be teething, very likely. He might find the bottle uncomfortable. You could try a little liquid in a sippy cup. My son started drinking from one at about 8 months and never used a bottle after that. Try giving him some baby pain reliever and putting baby Orajel on his gums, also.

As long as he is is still eating, he is still taking in fluid of some sort, so you are ok. My daughter is 7 months old and is getting 2 teeth at the same time and does the same thing. The Pedi told me that as long as she's eating solids, or taking in food/fluids one way or another not to worry. Only worry when there has only been 3 wet diapers in 24hrs, that means they are starting to dehydrate. Try mixing a little bit of extra formula in the cereal that way he's getting some of the nutrients, make it more "liquidy" than solid.

It's possible that the teething is just making him fussy. Have you tried giving him Tylenol, or making a cold teething ring, or ice chips? You need to help him get more comfortable so he can get enough fluids. Dehydration is a serious thing!

Absolutely!! Try giving him Tylenol about 30 minutes before offering the bottle. Also try it ice cold - cold soothes the gums.(Orajel or ambesol can burn them) If that doesn't work - try a cup. Since babies under a year old get the vast majority of their nutrition from breastmilk or formula, you want to push that before ANYTHING else. (ESPECIALLY water or juice!!)

Have you tried a different container? If he is used to a bottle try a sippy cup. If he is used to a sippy cup try one of those water bottles with sport tops.
Also try a different flavor of juice.
Teething apparently can cause anything. He will drink when he is thirsty, if it continues past 24 hours I would call your pediatrician.

I think he is probably sick. I have never had a baby stop drinking because he is teething. If you have a well appointment soon talk to your doctor. If you don't call and talk to a nurse or your doctor and see what they say.

check his mouth for Thrush ( little whitish blister things). if they have thrush they will not take a bottle cause it hurts to suck. and at nine months he should be eating table foods.

mix some formula into his food so that he is getting milk.
