Why would a doctor order an ultrasound at only 16 weeks? The doctor said i was quite large to be 16 weeks. And there was also a large difference in the heart rate.

My doctor orders ultrasounds early. He cares more about the health of the child then you finding out the sex. Early ultrasounds can be important if there is a problem.. Talk to your MD about it.

16 weeks is a normal time for an ultrasound. They want to check the fetal development.

Why don't you ask your doctor?

What do you mean "a large difference in the heart rate?" Difference between what? More info please!

my doctor ordered my first ultrasound (internal) at 8 weeks. It all depends on the doctor

Maybe to check and see the size of the baby. They measure with ultrasound the baby's head, abdomen and thigh bone and calculate how much he/she weighs. I would assume that's what your Doc wants to do, since you are measuring bigger. Also, maybe he/she thinks you are further along than you actually are. I wouldn't worry too much. Best wishes to you and the babe!

the doctor likely wants to check and see if you are carrying twins or are farther along than you think.

well he could think that you are having twins, or something could be wrong with the baby. whatever it is, i hope that all goes well. good luck and congrats!
