They had a story about it on The Today Show this morning. They seemed to draw the conclusion that it MIGHT be useful to have if your pet develops a serious illness like cancer, but if your pet is basically healthy it wouldn't be worth the trouble.

Apparently only a small percentage of Americans currently insure their pets.

Do you have pet insurance? Why or why not?

I've had it in the past. It was great when I had my first dog. I kept it throughout her puppy years. It is a bit expensive (I was paying 27.00 per month with a work discount), but i got reimbursed for a lot of stuff. My Gia had pancreatitis (549 bill) and I got about 350 back...when she got spayed, the bill came to about 400, and I think I got a little more than half back on it.

It really is worth it, but it's going to cost you some bucks!

I just got my new puppy insurance through the AKC, but I'm not sure what the premium is yet because I got 3 months free.

We don't, but then again we only have two fish who don't play a big part in our family. If they died, they would just go down the toilet.

My aunt had insurance for her cat though, and it really came in handy. The cat was a stray, and the last year they would have had to pay tens of thousands in pet bills.

If you really are willing to go to the end for your pet, do it.

If you really love your pet but would rather not see your pet suffer for more than a few days, don't do it.

No, because I am yet to find anyone who will insure two pet chickens, and also because I can carry out all but the most complicated procedures (like operations) myself.

Currently I do not but I am thinking about looking into it. I also saw that segment on the Today Show and it sparked my curiousity.
