When I was leaving the store the other day, I had a very close encounter that still gives me chills. I was right outside the front door where the yellow diagonal lines are for the pedestrians to walk across, there are stop signs on either side so the cars will stop and let people by. Well, one young girl DID NOT want to wait. I was halfway through with my kids in the basket, the girl was stopped, and there was a car pulling out of a close by parking spot. The girl saw this and darted in front to get the spot. She came nearly an INCH from hitting my basket with my kids in it! Another lady next to me saw this and helped me confront the girl. I was mortified, the young girl told ME that I needed to get out of the way. Didn't I have the right to be there? I mean, what's her problem? Why are people so rude? The other lady continued to confront her but I left and thanked God no one was hurt, but it still is so upsetting. I didn't have the patience to deal with her. What would you have done?

There are many ways to handle this but the best and most dramatic way to do this is to get a policeman and stake out her car and have her arrested for wreckless driving and vehicular assault.
If as you describe it you were at the lane going into the store when she made this maneuver then you were technically in a street and protected by the laws of traffic, in otherwords she broke the law, and unlike the other lanes of the parking lot, the lane that surrounds the actual store is considered a street for fire safety purposes. The police can arrest you for what happens on that lane. If she nearly ran you over in that lane it was as if she nearly ran you over at an intersection.
What's more, this is probably on video tape surveilence so you can still do it if you like.
Beating her up with your children around is not a good idea, but; sending her to jail and having her license revoked is.
Of course, in the good old days I wouldn't have thought twice about it and lets just say it was not pretty.

Being a pedestrian give you the right away, and this young woman, obviously does not qualify as a "lady" was simply wrong and only thinking of herself. It would have been good, especially since you had a witness, to have gotten her license plate and called the police on her. Some people are very dangerous behind the wheel of a car, she is one of them. Be careful...

I had a similar experience many years ago. I yelled at the girl who nearly hit us and then just went in the store. Later, while I was shopping,I ran in to the girl again and she started cussing me out. I told her to get out of my face several times and she kept running her mouth. You know how big Walmart shopping carts are, right? I lost it after she kept going on and on....I ran over her with my shopping cart and told her if she got back up and starting running her mouth again, I would do it again. It was the funniest site seeing her flat on her back on the floor with my cart half way on her.... She was so shocked that she actually did not say another word. Like I said, this was many years ago. I have since learned to control my temper better. LOL

It amazes me that folk on this site are so lazy they can't read a few lines in a question.
I would have done what you did - It is better not to engage in a confrontation with people these days as one never knows whether it could end tragically in violence. I wish I knew why people are no totally lacking in compassion, consideration and civility these days but believe me I understand your frustration and upset.

Well this is what I would have done, I would have smash her in the head. I do not have kids yet but if I did they are my main priority. When anyone does something to my kids they will surely get what is coming for them. But in a more sensable manner I think that you should have gave her a piece of your mind. I would be very angry and ready to put up my fist to defend my children. Perhaps the best thing to do is to calm down and take a deep breath. Remember one goes around comes around, and what she did, someone will do to her.

I don't know what I would have done but it wouldn't be pretty. Thank God that you and your children are alright just shaken up. You had every right to be there she was the one who didn't. There are too many crazy drivers out there drunk or not drunk. It is getting crazy and then you think, what was their driving instructors on?

Oh my gosh..... I don't know how you did it.. If someone put my daughter in danger like that.....OOOOOHHHHHHHhh there would be hell to pay!
I would probably call the cops with that one. That dumb b*tch would have gone to jail if something had happened.
Wow... You have the right to be FURIOUS! And scared as hell at the same time. Thank god nothing happened to your kids!!! They have guardian angels looking after them!

Wow, some people have a lot of nerve. I would have been tempted to snatch her up, but I wouldn't have for the sake of the children. However if she would have hit them, her and I would both be going to jail.

You, as a pedestrian, had the right of way. I would have told that girl to shove it, because I had the right of way.
