Everytime i go into my local tesco and take a trolley,everytime i touch it i get a shock and i look ridiculous walking around the supermarket jumping when i forget and put my hand on it!

What causes this?It happens to my little boy too?

The above answers are correct, to stop having these shocks, you will have to earth yourself by having a bare copper wire trailing behind you, a bit like a tail, this prevents the build up of static.

Your shoes are insulating your body so that natural static in the atmosphere collects on you rather than being dissipated to the ground. Helicopters have the same problem when they are rescuing people, as they gather electrical charge as they fly and of course are not touching the ground. When the rescue line contacts the victim it must be discharged first or they'll get a shock.

I hate the feeling when I get the shock you talk of.

It's static electricity. Don't worry, it's harmless just uncomfortable. You probably pick up a mild charge from your car or walking across a carpeted area with the trolley.

It is caused by static electricity. Nylon clothes and friction make you more liable to get shocked. some people are more sensitive to this than others. Some days are worse than others, depending on the current in the air.

Happens to me too, its static electricity.
Dont wear rubber soled shoes in Tescos is the answer!
