im looking to spend around 50 bucks the most. i would like one that is quiet since the tank is in my bedroom.

i saw this one called tetra in the tank filter. dont know if that is good. i need one that works good with shallow water since i have turtles. and quiet noise is a major key too.

any thoughts?

thanks!

I have a All Living Things brand filter that's specifically made for turtles. It works excellent and is fairly quiet. It's not a Whisper filter or anything but I have it in my bedroom too and have no problems sleeping at night with it on. You can get one at Petsmart for about $20. I highly recoment it. It's double filtered which REALLY helps with turtles (trust me if it's not, they and their tanks get nasty!). This filter is also fully submersible with suction cups on the side and hoses you can attach to it to make the water flow out where you want it to go.

50 bucks should be more than enough for shallow water. for a turtle you need to get 2- 3 times stroger filter becasue they are 'messier' than fish. got to your local pet store and get they highest grade submersible pump. they can lay on their back sides on the bottom to take up less room or on the side with suction cups and work in relativly shallow water. i personally would avoid one that hoks on the side of the tank like for fish becasue they require a very high level of water to function properly. they will move water at a minimum level but at this water level they don't do much filtering. (too much water is a bad thing in a turtel tank either too little land, air space be tween land and lid or they can crawl out.)

also submersibles make vertually no noise if the water surface isn't broken.

i hope this helps and answered your question

oh one more thing they're alittle bit more expensive but canister filters work wonderfully and are out side the tank with two tubes that go into the water. they usually have three stage filtration, bio, mechanical and have material for benificail bacterial to grow. but like i said they run a little higher.

I use an aqua clear filter, and love it. It works really well. I haven't tried it out in shallower water though.
