I work for a one person office, so it's only me and my boss. I'm nervous since I completely run the office. I am just about 12 weeks. I will take off 6 - 8 weeks, but since it's just us, I know it's unpaid and I'm fine with that. What are you thoughts of when and how I can tell him?

I've been with him for 3 years - and I'll be the one to interview/hire/train the temp.

Mommy of 3 - many women like to work. I work part-time and feel no guilt about it. By the way, my retired mother cares for my children and yes, she does love them like I do!

Tell him soon, so he doen't stress since your absence will obviously make a HUGE impact on the office. This way the news will more likely be taken as good news, not stessful news.
However you decide to tell him, do it in a cheerful "I've got wonderful news!" kind of way. Don't leave any chance for doubt or negativity.
Possibly follow up by breaking into the whole "So, whenever you like, we can talk about how you would like to go about having me train a temp to help you out while I'm home with baby".
If you seem to be thinking ahead and thinking of the business' needs and are of the frame of mind that everything will run smoothly, it will ease his stress and make the entire transition easier.

nows the time to do it! I told mine at 12weeks, (after my 1st trimester) I am a one person office too, well i have about 30 in my company but we are a satellite office with just the two of us.
My company isnt very family friendly, so i was VERY nervous! but he took it great and had already lined up to have a temp handy and ready to go the minute I go into labor. ha ha
UNPAID! id be dying! i luckilly get 30 days paid. Otherwise I couldnt do it!
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

I think you're at a safe enough point now to tell him since you're nearing the end of the first trimester. I would work out any details you know now, like when (about) you'll be out and if you can do any work from home. He'll feel more confident if you have some plans worked out.

Tell them now, since at the end of your first trimester you're pretty much past any danger zone. Be upfront about when you're going to work until (i.e. until a week before your due date, or whatever.) Offer to look for a temp if they want it.

Just come out and say it. It depends on how long you have been working there. If you have been working there less than a year wait until you start showing to say something about it.

i wouldnt wait too long to tell him that way he has plenty of time before you go on maternity leave to find someone to fill in temporarily for you while you are on maternity leave. if you don't tell him he will eventually notice that you are pregnant when you start to show in a couple of months. just wait when he is not so busy and he is in a good mood. just explain to him that you just found out that you were pregnant and you just want to let him know ahead of time so he can be prepared for it when you take your maternity leave.

I think that you should tell him with confidence and pride. This is your life, this is your baby! I think that what you really should be worrying about is how you can take A LOT more time than 6 weeks to raise your child! Why do you even want to have a baby if you are going to give it to someone else to raise after it is only 6 weeks old???? Just think about it!

I would tell him right about now...that way he has lots of time to make arrangements for a temp.
I would just tell him what your plans are and go from there.
