A couple of lassies at my work have just found out that they are pregnant...whilst i was congratulating them someone made a comment that they were pregnant because they must have been something in the air....i said 'Obviously , theirs legs!!'
i was dragged into the managers office and given a written warning ...wouldn't a slap on the coupon(face) from the lassies be more appropriate punishment

I think your manager has over reacted! in this PC culture we have some people may have been offended!
if you can, check round the office and see if anyone was upset by your comment - if not it may be worth asking your boss to revoke it!
written warnings are quite severe and should only come after 3 verbal warnings!
personally though, i think it was a hilarious comment to make - and would have kept me giggling to myself all day!

A written warning is a bit harse you should of got a verbal. It was probably because the management thought you was being rude and offensive towards the girls.I would appeal against it if i was you. If you have a union rep have a word and get them to help you. I know i would.

Unfortunately in this PC world of ours your remark would have been taken as wrong. I agree that it seems far too harsh and in your place I would argue that a quiet word or at the most a verbal warning should have been enough. In fact i would approach the union rep and ask to have it withdrawn.

If you said it in front of a bunch of blokes, we all would've gotten a big laugh out if it and that would be all. But, alas, with women in the workplace, everybody is too sensitive and you can't say a thing without some one getting their dander up.
At least you only got written up. I got fired for making a comment.

Sounds like they can't take a joke. I would have just laughed. Definitely not worth a written warning.

Well, it was kinda rude. I don't know the women, but if they took it the wrong way, you were sexually harassing them.
If you said it to me, I would laugh. It's obviously just a joke. Get over it. But, in todays world, you can't say anything off color.

Maybe someone in authority considered your remarks were inappropriate and you were due a warning and the person considered no time like the present.

I thought it was funny. If you are not the type that normally makes sexist jokes then I think they are wrong!
Those ladies went behind your back to get you into trouble if you arent that type. They should've told you right out that they did not like the joke.

i would not lose any sleep over it they only last a few month,
when was younger got them all the time mostly for silly stuff,
the only time i really deserved one for calling the boss an ignorant arrogant ba$tard & get back here while i have my say , i did not get one, but there again it was the truth

Actually, I think a written warning for an off colour comment was a bit harsh. A verbal warning would have been better.
