Your flops are not missing, they have flipped...look for black soles facing up. These pesky things do this by themselves for no apparent reason.
And, you saw a NIGHT light, not a bright light. ... the one you keep plugged into the wall at the foot of your bed.
Now, put away the recreational chemicals, get back to your computer and GO TO WORK!

The bright light could just be something normal... we'd need more details of like when and where haha. And you probably just misplaced the flip flops. Why would some alien want rainbow flip flops..? haha... but that'd be coool if they were abucted!

You elderly neighbor obviously has a thing for colorful merchandise, be it Lucky charms, or flip flops.
Perhaps she has been abducted???
Perhaps they have ordered her to find colorful merchandise, since their planet has no color, only greys.

right on top of the sprinker system
trip it up with some motion detectors, and I think you can catch her in the act. Then, interigate her as to her mission.
